Jaigarh - About Us

SUSTAINABLE CONSERVATION

Besides being recognised as a military marvel, Jaigarh is also a brilliant example of early sustainable architecture. Built with Rajasthan’s extreme climate in mind, its design reflects practical and resource-conscious choices made centuries ago.

Right from the entrance at Doongar Gate, the main entrance built by Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II, to the seven-storey watchtower Diya Burj, every part of the fort serves both strategic and ecological purpose. The fort’s irregular polygonal layout, ancient armouries, temples, and reservoirs were all laid out thoughtfully to optimise land use and resilience.

What makes the architecture of Jaigarh even more interesting is the fact that how seamlessly sustainability was embedded into its original planning long before the concept became a global concern.
